How to get started with multi-factor authentication
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an increasingly popular way to add an extra layer of security to your online accounts. With MFA, you have to provide more than one form of authentication before you can gain access to a website or service.
This makes it difficult for hackers and other malicious actors to break into your accounts because they need multiple pieces of information in order to do so. Authy is a popular MFA provider that offers additional layers of protection for your online accounts. Here’s how to get started using Authy for multi-factor authentication.
Step 1: Create an Authy Account
The first step towards setting up multi-factor authentication with Authy is creating an account. Visit authy.com and click on the “Sign Up” button. You will be asked to enter some basic personal information such as your name and email address, as well as create a secure password. Once you’ve filled out all the necessary fields, click “Create Account”.
Step 2: Link Your Accounts
Once you have created your Authy account, you can begin linking it to the various online accounts that you want protected with multi-factor authentication.
To do this, go to the “Accounts” tab in your Authy dashboard and click on “Link New Account” from the dropdown menu. You will then be prompted to enter information about the particular online service or website that you want protected – such as its name and URL – and then follow any additional instructions provided by Authy on how to link it up properly.
Step 3: Set Up Your Multi-Factor Authentication Options
Once all of your accounts are linked up, it’s time to set up which MFA options you want enabled for each one.
Go back into your Accounts tab in your Authy dashboard and select an account from the list that appears there. Then click on “MFA Settings” from the top right corner of the page, where you can choose which types of MFA options – like push notifications or one-time passwords (OTPs) – should be enabled for that particular account when someone attempts to log in or make changes to it. Choose whichever options feel most secure for you, then save them and repeat this process for any other accounts that require MFA protection as well!
